Green Tea Benefits — Diet Like The Stars!
It seems like everywhere you turn you see a new “green tea diet” on the market. With all this hoopla over green tea are there any indications that green tea really helps you lose weight?
Well, it seems as though some famous women have turned to green tea to help them manage their weight. The “gossip” columns have touted the likes of Gwyenth Paltrow, Eva Longoria Parker and Nicole Kidman as some of the latest converts.
Latest Study On Effects of Green Tea
A recent British study has come up with some promising weight loss results concerning green tea. They claim that by drinking the equivalent of 3 1/2 cups of green tea 3 times a day and combining that with 30 minutes of aerobic activity their participants lost 17% more fat than those that didn’t use green tea before exercising.
How Does Green Tea Work?
It seems that green tea works with the body’s own hormones to burn more fat for energy. And it would appear that adding the exercise causes this to happen even more efficiently than just drinking green tea alone. Green tea has already been found to boost metabolism and now this study has also shown that green tea can lower insulin levels as well. Even without exercise they found that insulin levels dropped nearly 15%. And this means you’ll store fewer calories as fat.
Don’t Think You Can Drink 10 Cups of Tea Every Day?
I know that sounds like a lot of tea to drink! Don’t forget, we’re not just talking sipping hot tea all day long. You can also drink iced green tea. Consider making yourself a pitcher of iced green tea (just steep 5 bags in 24 oz. of boiling water, then chill and add ice) and sip it all day long as you would water.
And if that still just won’t fit into your daily routine, you can take supplements. The researchers recommend taking a supplement that contains 300 mg polyphenols and 100 mg EGCGs three times a day to get the same benefits as the amounts in their study. A good one to try is Country Life Green Tea Extract.
You might also want to stick with a decaf green tea since more than 3 caffeinated beverages a day is the max recommended by health professionals.
So — I’m off to make my pitcher of green tea — I already drink green tea at breakfast — but I’m going to have a pitcher ready to sip on in place of my daily water intake. I let you know how this works for me. If you’ve tried it please let us know if it has worked for you!
