Tea Effects

It’s one of the world’s oldest beverages — we just can’t seem to get enough tea. While not exactly replacing coffee, many are turning to tea because of its touted health benefits. It has played a major role in Asian culture for centuries as not only their main beverage but as a curative.
Tea Effects on our health have been widely circulated recently especially with the green tea craze. Many recent studies have indicated green tea’s benefits as everything from weight loss to curing cancer. But it’s not just green tea that has alleged health benefits. Black, oolong, green and white teas all have a common origin.
While there have been numerous studies on tea effects, the actual benefits are still not clear. Following are some of the potential benefits of drinking tea:
Memory — A recent study found that older adults in Japan who drank green tea daily exhibited less risk of memory difficulties that those not drinking tea regularly.
Cancer – Various studies have claimed that the antioxidant levels in tea have many cancer fighting properties. Some research has suggested that the polyphenols in tea may reduce the risk of gastric, esophageal and skin cancers. Other studies claim that drinking black tea regularly may have beneficial effects on lowering cancer rates. Some lab tests claim white tea may protect against colon cancer.
Bone and Joint Health — Some lab research has suggested green tea may be helpful in reducing arthritis-related inflammation and that regular tea consumption might prove beneficial in improving bone density in older women.
Cardiovascular – The jury is still out on tea’s benefits to lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, although some studies indicate green tea may reduce heart attack risks.
Even though there is a lot more research to be done there is definitely a great deal of interest in tea effects and our health. Maybe you just like the soothing effects of relaxing with your favorite cup of tea! Wouldn’t it be great if we were getting all of these great health benefits too?
