Tea Ingredients: Help for the Risks of Smoking?

Do tea ingredients help male smokers? A recent Finnish study says maybe so. After studying 26,000 male smokers they concluded that drinking two or more cups of tea daily can reduce their risk of having a stroke.
After following the subjects for more than 13 years and involved consuming 2 or more cups of black tea daily. There was a 21% reduction in the risk of cerebral infarction (caused by the blockage in a vessel that supplies blood to the brain).
Once again the tea ingredients — polyphenols — have been found to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. These polyphenols have high antioxidant properties which prevents the oxidation of LDL cholesterol. It is the oxidation of LDL that promotes the formation of atherosclerosis which then leads to an increased risk of all types of cardiovascular disease, including stroke.
While this study does not show the effects of tea for women or non-smokers it is become widely accepted that the benefits of tea make it an amazingly healthy beverage choice.
