Green Tea Extract — More Amazing Benefits
I came across a recent article published by Ivanhoe.com Medical Breakthroughs reporting the latest findings by a Mayo Clinic trial study on the use of green tea extract in the treatment of Leukemia.
Green tea’s active ingredient epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) shows promise in helping Leukemia patients battle cancer.
In this study 33 patients took the green tea extract in capsule form twice daily, ranging in doses from 400 to 2,000 milligrams. Because there seem to be no apparent side effect the patients were able to withstand EGCG in very high doses. Because of this the researchers believe they haven’t even reached the maximum dosage.
“The majority of individuals who entered the study with enlarged lymph nodes saw a 50 percent or greater decline in their lymph node size,” Tait Shanafelt, M.D., Mayo Clinic hematologist and lead author of the study was quoted as saying.
There is currently no cure for CLL. the most common form of lukemia. Researchers are hoping that when combined with other therapies the EGCG can strengthen patients’ treatments.

Once again the amazing health benefits of tea, and in particular green tea, have been shown to be extremely beneficial for a whole host of illnesses. And there seems to be few, if any, adverse side effects associated with the use of tea.
Hopefully further research will continue to show how the medical world can adapt this natural treatment in the fight against cancer and other illnesses.
